Israel At War – Day 406
All Eyes On Iran
IAF Hits Nuclear Site
We see in a report from The Jerusalem Post that the Israeli strikes on military sites in Iran also included hitting one of their nuclear site:
The Israel Air Force allegedly struck one of Iran's secret nuclear research facilities as part of an operation that took place at the end of October, according to a Friday Axios report that cited former and current US and Israeli officials.
The IAF hit a site very close to the capital if Iran:
According to the report, the attack caused significant damage to the site in the Parchin military complex, about 20 kilometers southeast of Tehran.
And the attack was significant:
The strike dealt a severe blow to Iran’s nuclear development efforts, the officials cited in the report claimed.
Even though Iran says they are only going to use nuclear material for commercial and domestic reasons, the site shows that isn’t the case:
The facility was allegedly part of the Iranian Amad nuclear weapons program until 2003. It was then used for testing explosives needed to set off a nuclear device, the report added, citing the Institute for Science and International Security.
The site was very important and could have set the Iranian weapons ambitions back:
Axios also noted that a former Israeli official briefed on the strike said Israel destroyed sophisticated equipment that was required and necessary for the nuclear devices.
Of course Iran denies all of this and we all know how trustworthy their information really is:
Additionally, the report said that Iran has allegedly denied using nuclear weapons. It also mentioned that the Iranian mission to the UN declined to comment on the Axios report.
Admitting that this particular site was hit would also prove that they were building nuclear weapons so Iran couldn’t tell the world it was stuck. Not coincidentally, Iran just allowed the United Nations watchdog represented in to inspect their nuclear sites as we read in another article, this one from The Times Of Israel:
The report came the same day as the head of the UN nuclear watchdog visited two Iranian nuclear sites as part of a visit to Iran.
Although Iran is open to letting the UN see the sites, they are not willing to stop the activity:
During the visit, Iran’s foreign minister told International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi that Tehran is willing to resolve outstanding disputes over its nuclear program but won’t succumb to pressure.
Grossi visited the Natanz nuclear plant and the Fordow enrichment site, which is dug into a mountain around 100 km (60 miles) south of the capital Tehran, state media reported, without giving details.
What does this mean in the big scheme of things? Iran will try and look cooperative but still continue to become a nuclear threat, something Israel will never let them do.
Iran Won’t Kill Trump?
We’re told in a report from independent.co.uk that Iran had an agreement with the US to not try and assassinate Donald Trump:
Iran sent a private letter to the Joe Biden administration last month vowing it wouldn’t plot to kill Donald Trump, according to a report.
The letter was a follow up to an official warning from the US the previous month:
The letter from Tehran — delivered on October 14 — came in response to US officials’ private hand-written warning to the country in September, relating that any threats against the then-Republican nominee’s life would be “treated as an act of war,” the Wall Street Journal first reported.
Iran has wanted to target Trump since 2020:
The promise not to kill the now president-elect contradicts Iran’s vow to avenge Qassem Soleimani — the commander of the Quds Force killed in a US airstrike in 2020 during Trump’s presidency.
However, the letter echoed its claim that Trump had committed a crime by directing the airstrike to target Soleimani. Tehran’s letter was not signed by a specific official, the Journal reported.
The problem is that they didn’t appear to honor the promise:
The revelation comes one week after the Justice Department announced that it had intercepted a fugitive Iranian government operative’s scheme to assassinate President-elect Trump before election day.
Trump has been targeted from domestic terrorists as well which prompted an increase in his protection detail:
It also arrives months after Trump’s Secret Service presence was bolstered over the summer when the Biden administration learned of credible threats targeting US politicians.
The boost in his security detail happened mere weeks before a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at Trump’s Butler, Pennsylvania, rally. There is no evidence to suggest the incidents are connected.
As I mentioned earlier, can we trust anything the Iranians tell us? They have a habit of saying one thing and doing another. I feel that Trump is taking a Biblical tack on this:
Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves. (Matt 10:16, NLT)
That’s good advise for all of us really, but especially when working with nations like Iran.
