They’re Watching Us
There is a spirit rising in this age that wants to see everything, know everything, track everything, and ultimately control everything. We are told it is about convenience. We are told it is about safety. We are told it is about efficiency. But underneath the polished language and sleek technology is something much darker: man’s ancient lust to become godlike. The growing surveillance state is not just about cameras, data centers, digital IDs, facial recognition, artificial intelligence, financial tracking, and biometric systems. It is about power. It is about dominion. It is about a world system that increasingly conditions humanity to accept constant oversight as normal. And if you know your Bible, that should make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Because Scripture has already warned us that a day is coming when buying, selling, worship, allegiance, and coercive power will converge into one monstrous system. Revelation 13:16–17 says that the beast “causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark... and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark.” That is not just a warning about a future tyrant. It is a warning about a world prepared to receive him.
The March Toward Total Control
What we are watching right now is not necessarily the finished beast system, but it looks an awful lot like the road being paved for it. A society where movements can be tracked, purchases can be flagged, speech can be monitored, accounts can be frozen, and dissent can be algorithmically punished is a society being trained for centralized control. People are being discipled into digital dependence. They are being conditioned to trade liberty for convenience and privacy for security. Daniel 7:23 speaks of a final kingdom that shall be “diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.”
2 Thessalonians 2 speaks of the man of sin who will exalt himself above all that is called God. Revelation shows us a beast system with global reach, economic teeth, and spiritual demands. So no, believers should not look at the surveillance age and shrug. We should discern the times.
What makes this moment so chilling is that the world no longer recoils at being watched. It welcomes it. It craves the ease. It celebrates the speed. It embraces the integration. But that is how bondage often arrives: not with chains first, but with benefits first.
The Pride of Man
At its core, the surveillance state is an expression of human pride. Man wants omniscience without God. He wants omnipresence without God. He wants sovereignty without God. He wants to build systems that imitate divine attributes while remaining in open rebellion against the Lord of heaven and earth. But the Bible is clear. Only God sees all. Proverbs 15:3 says, “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” Only God truly knows all. Psalm 139:1 says, “O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.” Only God has the right to absolute rule. The state may seek to imitate the gaze of God, but it can never carry the righteousness of God. And that is what makes all-seeing human power so dangerous. Fallen man does not handle godlike tools righteously. The surveillance state says, “We must know everything about you.” God says, “I already know you completely.” The surveillance state says, “You will be safest under our eye.” God says, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1, KJV).
What Bible Prophecy Tells Us
Bible prophecy tells us that the last days will not merely be marked by wickedness, but by organized wickedness. Not just sin, but systematized sin. Not just rebellion, but global rebellion. Revelation does not describe a chaotic world alone. It describes a controlled world. A directed world. A coerced world. A world where political power, spiritual deception, and economic enforcement work together. That is why this conversation matters so much. Surveillance by itself is not the beast. But it can become the infrastructure of the beast. It can become the mechanism that makes control scalable, immediate, and nearly inescapable. It can become the digital nervous system of a prophetic order that the Bible warned was coming all along. And yet the real danger is even deeper than tracking. The issue is worship. The issue is allegiance. The issue is who gets to define reality, morality, and obedience. Revelation 13 is not ultimately about technology. It is about a counterfeit kingdom demanding what belongs only to God. So, when the world tells you these systems are harmless, remember this: man never builds towers innocently for very long. Babel is always in the blood.
Hidden in Christ
Now here is where the believer must stop trembling before the spirit of the age.
Because while the world is trying to become all-seeing, all-knowing, and all-controlling, the Christian has already been placed somewhere the system cannot reach. Colossians 3:3 says, “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” That verse is dynamite in a surveillance age. Your truest life is not in your wallet, not in your biometric profile, not in your online footprint, not in your government file, not in your digital identity. Your life is hid with Christ in God. Do not miss the glory of that. Man can watch the body, but he cannot own the soul. Man can monitor your patterns, but he cannot erase your redemption. Man can threaten your comfort, but he cannot cancel your inheritance. The believer’s real security has never been anonymity. It has never been earthly freedom alone. It has never been getting off the grid. It has always been union with Jesus Christ. Psalm 91 does not say the child of God lives free from danger. It says he lives under divine shadow. “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust”(Psalm 91:2). Isaiah 26:20 says, “Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers... hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.” Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” Psalm 31:20 says, “Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man.” From the pride of man. There it is. That is this age in a phrase.
Known, Sealed, and Kept
The world wants to mark people, sort people, flag people, score people, track people, and eventually control people. But the Christian is already marked by Someone greater. Ephesians 1:13 says believers “were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.” Ephesians 4:30 says we are sealed “unto the day of redemption.” Before the beast marks his followers, God has already sealed His own. This is why Romans 8:35 is so important for the days ahead. “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” Tribulation cannot. Distress cannot. Persecution cannot. Famine cannot. Peril cannot. Sword cannot. And that means no surveillance regime, no government overreach, no digital leash, and no prophetic storm can separate the believer from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Jesus said in John 10:27–28, “My sheep hear my voice... and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” The world may exclude. The world may threaten. The world may blacklist. The world may squeeze. But it cannot pluck Christ’s sheep from His hand.
Matthew 10:29–31 tells us that not even a sparrow falls without the Father, and the very hairs of our head are all numbered. Think about the contrast. The state counts people to manage them. God numbers His children because He loves them.
So, What Do We Do?
We do not panic. We do not deny what is happening. We do not stick our heads in the sand. And we do not put our hope in politicians, platforms, or privacy settings. We watch. We discern. We stay sober. We refuse to worship the system. And above all, we abide in Christ. The days ahead may grow darker. Control may increase. Pressure may intensify. The world may continue marching toward the conditions the Bible warned us about. But prophecy was not given so the saints would collapse in fear. Prophecy was given so the saints would endure in faith. So let the system build its towers. Let the rulers boast in their reach. Let the technocrats dream of omniscience. Let the kings of the earth imagine they can engineer total control. There is still a secret place they cannot enter. There is still a refuge they cannot breach. There is still a fortress they cannot hack, map, scan, infiltrate, or overthrow. That fortress is Jesus Christ. What do I think? I think the growing surveillance state is one more glaring sign that the world is moving in the direction Scripture said it would. I think it reveals the pride of man and the preparation of the stage for a coming system of control. But I also think believers need to stop acting like the enemy has the final move. He does not. Our lives are hidden with Christ in God. We are sealed by the Spirit. We are kept by the power of God. And no matter how advanced the machinery of man becomes, it still cannot penetrate the secret place of the Most High.
