Why Joel's End-Times Prophecy Is Happening in Your Lifetime
It's Happening Now
Across the prophetic movement today, the same testimony keeps surfacing from voice after voice: dreams are increasing, visions are multiplying, and believers everywhere are encountering God in ways many say they never have before. That's not coincidence, and it's not exaggeration. It's the fulfillment of a promise God made through the prophet Joel almost 2,800 years ago, and it hasn't stopped since He gave it.
On the day of Pentecost, Peter stood before a crowd that thought the disciples were drunk and told them plainly what they were actually watching:
That outpouring didn't stop when the crowd went home. It has continued for two thousand years, and it is continuing right now - which is exactly what the following voices are testifying to today.
Joel's prophecy also names a coming day of cosmic signs - the sun darkened, the moon turned to blood, "the great and awesome day of the LORD" (Joel 2:31). That part is still ahead of us. Far from being a problem, that's the encouragement: we're not watching the end of this move of God, we're standing in the middle of it, with more still coming.
Perry Stone: A Generation Living the Promise
Perry Stone has spent decades teaching that what Joel promised isn't history - it's happening now. His book How to Interpret Dreams and Visions doesn't treat Joel 2:28 as a memory of Pentecost; it treats the promise as a present reality, built on Stone's own testimony of receiving prophetic dreams and teaching believers to recognize and steward the same experience in their own lives. For Stone, the sons and daughters, the old men, the young men Joel named aren't a first-century footnote - they're this generation.
Joseph Z: Prophecy in an Hour Both Bright and Dark
Joseph Z describes something Joel could have written centuries ahead of time: an unprecedented hunger for real prophetic insight rising at the very same moment an unprecedented wave of prophetic error tries to drown it out. Joseph Z began encountering the voice of God through dreams and visions from a young age, and his own ministry stands as living proof that the outpouring Joel promised is active today - real prophetic gifting, operating in real time, in the middle of a culture flooded with counterfeits.
Troy Brewer: Still Speaking in the Night
Troy Brewer teaches that God hasn't stopped speaking through dreams - He's simply looking for people quiet enough to notice. Drawing on Numbers 12:6-8 and the examples of Daniel and Joseph, Brewer teaches that dreams remain one of God's normal, ongoing ways of communicating with His people, especially now, when so many are too busy and distracted to hear Him any other way. Our sleep, Brewer says, is often the one place God still has our full attention.
Wheat and Tares in Real Time
This is exactly the pattern Jesus described in His parable of the wheat and tares. A servant asks whether to pull up the counterfeit plants growing among the real crop, and Jesus answers:
Jesus later identifies the harvest itself as "the end of the age" (Matthew 13:39). That's the field Stone, Joseph Z, and Brewer are all describing - a real outpouring and a wave of counterfeit prophecy growing in the same season, on purpose, right up until the harvest is the thing that finally separates them. The presence of counterfeits was never a reason to expect less of the real thing. Scripture says the opposite: expect both, right up to the end.
This pattern isn't confined to three voices, either. Amanda Grace has built an entire ministry around teaching believers to distinguish real revelation from counterfeit prophecy in this same modern movement, Julie Green's ministry is built on the claim of receiving direct messages from God through visions, dreams, and the Holy Spirit, and Jennifer LeClaire has spent years as a prophetic voice and teacher writing on how believers should watch, pray, and stand in their end-times assignment. Different ministries, different angles, the same underlying claim: God is speaking through dreams and visions right now, in this generation.
Testing What You Hear
None of that means every claimed dream or vision deserves equal weight. Scripture still calls for testing, briefly and simply:
Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21) A dream or vision genuinely from God will agree with what's already written, point attention toward Christ, and build up rather than manipulate (1 Corinthians 14:3).
Ask, and Don't Quench It
Paul gave the church a direct command about this exact promise: Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies (1 Thessalonians 5:19-20). Too many believers respond to an outpouring this real by staying quiet, staying cautious, and waiting for someone else to walk in it first. Joel didn't promise the outpouring to a select few - he promised it to sons and daughters, old men and young men, menservants and maidservants. That includes you.
This week, stop treating dreams and visions as something that only happens to other people. Ask God directly to speak to you - in your sleep, in your prayer time, in the quiet moments you normally rush past. Write down what He shows you. Test it against Scripture the way we just did. And then walk in it, boldly, the same way Stone, Joseph Z, and Brewer have built their entire ministries on doing. The outpouring Joel promised was never meant to be a spectator event. It was meant to be yours.
