Our Response Is Key
In the first episode we talked about Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day and the question he is putting in front of the culture: what would happen to faith if humanity was suddenly told that extraterrestrial life is real? Now I want to take the conversation one step deeper. Because this is not just about a movie. It is about preparation. It is about discernment. It is about how the church responds when the world begins asking spiritual questions through a science-fiction lens. Spielberg’s film arrives at a time when UFOs, now often called Unidentified Aerial Phenomena or UAPs, have moved from late-night radio and conspiracy circles into congressional hearings, news coverage, podcasts, documentaries, and mainstream entertainment. Spielberg himself told CBS that he believes, based on the evidence he has gathered over his life, that non-human visitors “have been here, and they are here.” That is a major statement from one of the most influential filmmakers in history. But for Christians, the question is not just, “What does Spielberg believe?” The bigger question is, “How should the church disciple people through a moment like this?”
The Church Should Not Be Caught Off Guard
The church should not be surprised that people are asking cosmic questions. Where did we come from? Are we alone? Who made us? What is humanity? What is our destiny? Those are not just scientific questions. They are theological questions. And the Bible has been answering them long before Hollywood ever pointed a camera at the stars. Genesis 1 says God created. Psalm 8 says mankind has a unique place in creation. John 1 says all things were made through the Word.
Colossians 1 says all things were created through Christ and for Christ. Hebrews 1 says God has spoken finally and fully through His Son. So when people ask, “Are we alone?” Christians can answer with confidence. No, we are not alone. But not first because of aliens. We are not alone because God is real. We are not alone because angels exist. We are not alone because there is a spiritual realm. We are not alone because Christ came into the world. We are not alone because the Holy Spirit dwells in believers. That is the bigger truth.
The Coming Confusion
Here is where the church needs wisdom. If disclosure ever happens, or if the culture becomes convinced that disclosure has happened, there will be confusion. Some people will treat it like science. Some will treat it like religion. Some will treat it like salvation. Some will say these beings created us. Some will say they guided ancient civilizations. Some will say they were mistaken for angels. Some will say they are the source behind world religions. Some will say Jesus was one of them. And that is where Christians need to have their feet planted. Because any message that lowers Jesus from Lord to messenger is false. Any message that turns the cross into symbolism instead of atonement is false. Any message that denies sin, judgment, repentance, resurrection, and the lordship of Christ is false. The Bible already warned us about deceptive spiritual experiences. 2 Corinthians 11:14 says Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Matthew 24 warns of false signs and wonders. 2 Thessalonians 2 speaks of deception connected to lawlessness. Revelation shows a world system where signs are used to deceive. So the church must not be naive. A being can be powerful and still not be holy. A message can be supernatural and still not be from God. A revelation can be impressive and still be a lie.
The Wrong Christian Reaction
There are two wrong reactions Christians can have. The first wrong reaction is panic. Some Christians hear the word “alien” and immediately become fearful, as though the whole Bible is about to collapse. That is unnecessary. God is not fragile. Scripture is not fragile. Jesus is not threatened by headlines. The second wrong reaction is gullibility. Some Christians may run too quickly toward the mystery and baptize every strange phenomenon as truth. That is also dangerous. Christians are not called to panic, and we are not called to chase every mystery.
We are called to discern. Discernment means we do not mock everything automatically. But we also do not believe everything automatically. We test. We examine. We compare every claim to Scripture.
What the Bible Clearly Says About Humanity
Here is one of the most important points. Even if there are other creatures somewhere in creation, mankind still has a unique biblical identity. Humans are made in the image of God. Humans fell in Adam. Jesus became truly human. Jesus died for human sin. Jesus rose bodily from the grave.
Jesus is called the last Adam. That matters. The incarnation is not a vague cosmic metaphor. The Son of God took on human flesh. John 1:14 says the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
Philippians 2 says Christ humbled Himself and came in the likeness of men. Hebrews says He shared in flesh and blood. That means Christianity is rooted in history. It is rooted in creation, fall, covenant, incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, and return. So the church should not let a speculative subject pull us away from what has been revealed.
Could God Have Created Other Life?
Could God have created other life? Of course He could. God can create whatever He wants. The issue is not whether He has the power. The issue is what He has revealed. If there is life elsewhere, it would still be created life. It would not be divine. It would not be worthy of worship. It would not replace Christ. It would not rewrite the gospel. It would not change the fact that Jesus is Lord. This is why Christians need a bigger view of God. A small view of God panics when the universe seems bigger than expected. A biblical view of God says, “The universe is already smaller than His glory.” And another salient and very important point is that there isn’t any alien life that needs salvation. Which leads me to say that any aliens are in fact demons masquerading as beings from another planet. These nefarious fallen angels want us to think that life evolved on other planets just like us. Life didn’t evolve. Life is created by God. And only man on this planet has a spirit breathed into him.
The Church’s Opportunity
This conversation is not only a threat. It is also an opportunity. People are asking spiritual questions. They are wondering whether there is more to reality than materialism. They are questioning whether governments tell the truth. They are asking whether humanity has a purpose. They are wondering whether there is life beyond what we can see. The church should be ready to say: Yes, there is more than the material world. Yes, there is a spiritual realm. Yes, there is deception. Yes, there is truth. Yes, there is a Creator. Yes, there is a Savior. Yes, there is a coming King. And His name is Jesus. We do not need to let Hollywood control the conversation. We can use the conversation to point people back to Scripture.
How to Prepare Your Church or Family
So how do we prepare? First, teach a strong doctrine of creation. God made all things. Second, teach a strong doctrine of Christ. Jesus is not one spiritual teacher among many. He is the Son of God. Third, teach discernment. Not every supernatural claim is from God. Fourth, teach the difference between curiosity and compromise. It is okay to ask questions. It is not okay to abandon truth. Fifth, teach people not to worship created beings. No angel, alien, intelligence, principality, power, or messenger gets the worship that belongs to God alone. Sixth, keep the gospel clear. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. He was buried. He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. That is the foundation.
Point To A Loving Personal God
Spielberg’s Disclosure Day may cause a lot of people to talk about aliens, UFOs, government secrets, and the possibility of intelligent life beyond Earth. But for Christians, it should cause us to talk about something even greater. Who is God? Who is Jesus? What is mankind? What is creation? What is deception? What is truth? And are we ready to stand firm if the world is presented with a new narrative about our origins, our purpose, and our future? Christianity does not need to fear the heavens. The heavens declare the glory of God. But the church does need to be awake. Because if disclosure becomes the next great cultural shock, the issue will not only be what appears in the sky. The issue will be what people are told to believe because of it. And that is where the church must be ready. Ready with Scripture. Ready with discernment. Ready with courage. Ready with the gospel. Because no matter what mankind discovers, Jesus Christ is still Lord of heaven and earth. I guarantee you that the alien message will be one that makes Jesus less than the Son of God and that we can change without God’s help. Sin can be removed with higher science and not covered by the blood of Jesus. The Bible will be seen as outdated and just man-made stories. These aliens will tell us we need to evolve beyond what it teaches. We can and must see the deception for what it is and proclaim that what the world needs is still Jesus. It may be rejected, but it must still be preached. If we take this challenge seriously we can pass the test.
