President? No, We Need A King!
The Race For President Is Down To Two
As anyone who even remotely pays attention to the race for the president in America in 2024, Joe Biden and Donald Trump are the last two candidates standing. It seems like a rather normal outcome if we gage these things by the rules set up by both parties. Of course there are independent candidates like most years, so that appears to be in line with things that have happened in the past, too. Here we are in March and the primaries still to be held are just a formality. Could things change? Well, of course they can. When Abraham Lincoln ran for his first term, Texas actually didn’t have him on their ballot. That was when the Civil War made things contentious. To be fair, comparing elections then and now are not exactly apples to apples, but the point is made that stranger things have happened in election seasons past. We’ve seen candidates die and be elected posthumously and some convicted of crimes amid their campaigns. Things could happen and may happen even in 2024.
And There Are The Prophecies
Ever since the election season of 2020, an explosion of prophetic words started showing up in social media and I, along with so many other Christians not only mentioned them but heard from God about them as well. A lot of them said that God told them Donald Trump would be back in the Whitehouse by now and some still see it happening although we are 237 days away from election day and the clock is ticking. My point now isn’t about that, but it is part of the spiritual landscape and should be brought up, if only tangentially. I heard a word from God about things changing in one day and I still hold to that, if only because we’ve seen it happen multiple times in the Bible. And then there are those who have delivered prophecies about corruption being exposed and all manner of ways that will happen. To be honest, that’s a good prayer for every election and for all political offices. Term limits would only make this prayer topic even more necessary because the politician who is voted out needs to be replaced by one who is virtuous and honest, two characteristics sorely lacking in our current crop of officials.
Throw Out The Bums, God!
And I say that in the politest way. I am a student of prophecy and I do try and keep up with the prophecies about America and I can tell you that while that exact phrase hasn’t been uttered by a prophet, the sentiments are echoed in the words they deliver. Yes, we do need to test the spirits and how we do that is again, a lesson for another day. For now, the draining of the swamp is topic that keeps coming up in a variety of ways from a variety of prophetic words. The question is how and when. I don’t believe that all of these prophets are being given to a lying spirit as some have suggested, but I also keep looking for fulfillments of these prophecies. I’m also human and I can be a tad impatient. So what will happen on November 5th? Will we see what I call shenanigans as election counting begins? I would think from just a physical aspect it will be harder to do anything illegal since so many groups are going to be watching than before. We shall see. One thing I can say is that social media will be a maddening place to be that night regardless of which side you’re rooting for.
Did You Think I Forgot My Lead?
Well, I didn’t. The church, at least the circles I run in bemoaned not having someone in the Whitehouse who shared our views and fought for the things we held dear. In many respects, the church missed a great opportunity to use the freedoms we had as Trump took all the slings and arrows for us during his presidency. Instead, we got lax and comfortable. This isn’t the first time Christians got fat and lazy spiritually speaking. You may not agree with my sentiments, but I still believe the kingdom could have been advanced more than it did for those four years. So why did I start off by saying we don’t need a president, but a king? Am I proposing that we ditch our republic form of government and go back to having a king or queen? Of course not, at least in a human governmental way of thinking. Men and women are of only so much earthly good as they take on the roles of government. Yes, we should endeavor to find and vote for people who morally upright and who are honest. But when it comes to kingdom building, that’s the job of the Church, period. And it always has been. To be honest, when I talk about needing a king I’m not talking about a human one. We need to get back to listening to and supporting Jesus in our lives and doing things He wants us to do and supporting who He supports. I know I’ll make people from all parts of Christianity upset when I say this, but we don’t need a believer to hold every political office of the land. So what basic quality do we need in our politicians?
Stay Out Of Our Way
Don’t misunderstand me folks. I would love to have a fully Pentecostal person to vote for in every election. However, that isn’t going to happen nor has it ever been the case in our country. At the base level, I think we need politicians that respect freedom of religion and let the Church be the church. We need ones who may be rough on the edges and dare I even day, use less than polite verbiage. That would be cussing for those who need me to draw a picture for them. We may even have politicians who have lived less than stellar lives before running for office, but who God has forgiven. As I said, we simply need men and women who will allow Christians to be salt and light in a dark world and not burden them down with rules, regulations or even in some cases, arrest them for their faith. Stop the witch hunts based on political party affiliations and even moral viewpoints such as pro-lifers. Let discussions not be muted because they disagree with them. Freedom of speech and freedom of religion just as laid out in our Constitution.
We Need King Jesus Ruling Over Us
And that is my overall point. It’s nice to have our man or woman in the Whitehouse, but we should desire to have Jesus in our house more. Will we have to put up with politicians who aren’t perfect or decide that Christians are the reason for all our problems? That was a rhetorical question so don’t spend too much time waiting for me to answer it. Do we need a president to fulfill the Great Commission? No, we don’t. Do we specifically need Donald Trump to be reelected? It wouldn’t be a bad thing (liberals, be polite in the comments), but we need the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords over all things and that is not going to change. Let us pray for leaders who will do exactly what I said and not meddle in our work of reaching the lost at any cost. I’ve been voting since the 1970s and I’ve been happy for the results of some elections and disappointed with others. But in all that time, I’ve decided to not let political results be the barometer for how I serve Jesus. And that my friends is why we don’t need a president, we need a king.
